Review: Two retired FBI agents wrote in a new book on the Oklahoma City bombing that only convicted murderers Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols were involved. "All other theories proved implausible," former agents Jon Hersley and Larry Tongate wrote. Their book, "Simple Truths: The Real Story of the Oklahoma City Bombing Investigation," was released Friday.

Hersley, of Edmond, and Tongate, of Gladstone, Mo., were the primary agents on the case. They wrote the book with Bob Burke, an Oklahoma City attorney and historian.  The authors look at the book as a counter to those who contend the 1995 attack was the result of a wider conspiracy.

"We believed it was necessary to correct inaccuracies and untruths that were spread across the nation in the days, and months, and years since the bombing," Hersley said at a news conference Friday.

"We have no doubt that Timothy McVeigh and Terry Nichols alone carried out, planned and executed this bombing.'

Tongate suggested myths and inaccuracies about the bombing have been promulgated by "misguided individuals" who did not have access to all the facts.

The book was published by the Oklahoma Heritage Association, a nonprofit group. All three authors chose not to accept any income from the book. Proceeds will go instead to the association and the Oklahoma City National Memorial.- Nolan Clay, The Oklahoman, October 2, 2004
